Newborn Photography Safety

Often when I go to a home and am showing mum or dad how I achieve an image or a pose they say  “Oh I had no idea that’s how it was done- I thought you just balanced them like that!”. I am passionate about newborn safety. It is scary to realise that anybody with a camera can call themselves a newborn photographer- without any training at all in safe posing or even experience with babies. I pride myself in continuous training to make sure that I am always improving. I have trained with some of the best newborn photographers both here and abroad to make sure that I am attaining industry standards of safety.

I take safety very seriously. I’m sure all my past clients can attest that sometimes I am over-cautious but to me there is absolutely nothing more important than the safety and comfort of your precious baby. So for example, when you see an image like this:

You may be surprised to learn that it is a composite image. Baby is never left unsupported in this image. Mum’s hands are holding her little head at all times.

Being a newborn and baby photographer requires a unique set of skills (and patience) and there is a worldwide organisation that exists to support photographers who wish to have access to safety training and resources that we can use to provide clients with a better service. I’m delighted to be a member of BANPAS (Baby &Newborn Photography Association)  and you will be able to find me on their directory of photographers here . They also have a fabulous Facebook Page for pregnant and new parents here.  I have been a proud member of BANPAS since I first began my journey in newborn and baby photography.

If you are in Dublin or surrounding areas I’d be delighted to talk to you about how I can create a beautiful gallery of images for your newborn and very happy to chat to you about how I do that safely. Please contact me for booking and availability information on 087 7552092or at siobhain@tickletoes.ie. I look forward to hearing from you.

Belly Casting and Baby Photography

Baby In Mother's Belly Cast

Belly Casting is one of the other services that I offer. There is something so lovely about seeing baby all curled up in a perfect model of mummy’s bump.

It is so easy for you. I come to your home and bring everything that is required. It only takes around half an hour – 45 minutes. We then have a perfect replica of your bump to place your precious bundle in at their Newborn Session. So simple but so perfect!

I take the cast home after we make it (at between 36-38 weeks pregnancy) and I thicken and prime it to make it smooth for baby. Mummy keeps the cast after her session as a lovely memento of her pregnancy.

Áine’s Cake Smash and Splash

Cake smash and Splash Baby and Family Photographer Dublin-1

Last week the adorable Áine had a cake smash to celebrate her first birthday. This is a lovely, fun way to mark such a special occasion. I bring a colour co-ordinated cake, balloons and decorations for the event! It really makes for some very cute pictures of your little one.

After her cake smash Aine had a lovely bath in my vintage tub for the splash part of her session.

As part of every Cake Smash and Splash Session I also bring an alternative background to capture some classic family portraits. They are great fun and a really fantastic way to create and capture some beautiful family memories.
